We moved in to the residence yesterday morning. It was a very smooth transition and they were very organized with all our keys and info. We dropped our stuff in the tiny room (more on that later) and headed out to Keith's meeting with the teaching agency. It was a bit of a journey on the tube but by this point we were already old pros using the system (well, except for an instant where I almost had us going the wrong direction). Many forms later, we headed off to do some banking before going back to Uxbridge to pick up some basic kitchen materials.
It is a strange feeling to be stocking a kitchen from scratch once again. It makes you realize what the basics really are - in our case, two mugs, two plates, two forks, knifes and spoons. We also discovered a grocery store nearby and picked up more basics. We will have to head out this afternoon to get some more groceries. Because we are car-less and haven't yet figured out the bus system, anything we buy we have to be able to carry home.
Keith is already nearly finished his first day of work. We walked to his school last night to check the route and the time - it is almost exactly half an hour - a good walk. But better than having to take the tube every day!
Thanks for the updates and pictures! I look forward to following your blog! I hope you and Keith are well... take care.

Your blog about the excellent adventures of Clare and Keith is a great idea. I'm impressed with how much you've seen and done already. Your photos of London bring back many happy memories of my trips there from the 1970's onward.
ReplyDeleteHow big is your apartment? Can you swing a cat? It looks from the photo as if you're living in a rural area. It's not as citified as I imagined it would be. Am I right?
We're having a heat wave here with 90 degree plus muggy weather. The River is refreshingly cool. With Hurricane Earl coming up the eastern seaboard we have rain in the forecast starting this Labour Day weekend.
I look forward to your next posting. Look after yourselves.
love from Margie
Hi Margie,
ReplyDeleteThe residence room has just enough room to swing a cat, although we haven't tested that yet. The photo makes it look quite rural but there is a road just left of the frame, behind a row of trees. We are very "west" in London, still technically in the city (and on the tube) but on the edge. It is a bit of a hike into downtown (about an hour) but it's much more affordable to live out here and the transit is inexpensive (when you're not going every day, of course!) We are happy to be closed to a shopping area, which itself is quite historical - the church in the centre dates to the 14th century!(I will have to make a blog entry on "Uxbrige high street" sometime soon).
